I can not begin to express my love of Nero and Archie. I would hug them, but NW would never allow, so I'll just hug Archie. OMG, I love Archie. I actually got into those books from the TV show.
Archie is so wonderful. Every conversation he has with Wolfe fills me with glee. I love how he anticipates Wolfe's moods and generally knows what Wolfe is thinking and trusts him even when he doesn't, and I love how he so openly admires Wolfe even when he can't stand him. I love how hands-off he is with women in general and how kind he is to everybody and how he always overtips and and and. I love his blond curls. omg. I LOVE HOW HE ALWAYS TRIES TO QUIT WHEN HE'S SULKY. i saw "always" even though i have only read two books. i am sort of afraid to go near the movies because I might die of joy. and also because I am mildly afraid that the Nero in my head can only be played by some sort of weird crossbreed between Zero Mostel and Boss Hog.
Oh my jesus, Aja. Those ficlets (the Merlin and White Collar ones, specifically) just hit, like, all of today's buttons. djfdaskfjladskfjsadlkfj not helping with my concentration, which was already shot.
ARCHIE GOODWIN WAS LIKE MY FIRST LITERARY DEEP CRUSH ETERNAL LOVE MANSLAVE THINGAMAJIG.
I still think about things like angles no curves and dancing and oh so much due to Archie. I also adore how the one female author Wolfe accepts as brilliant is Jane Austen. Oh, what a smart idiot he is when it comes to womenz.
Shit, Aja, I cannot wait for you to read "In the Best of Families". You will die. I want your chapter-by-chapter reactions. SO GOOD. SO ANGTSY.
I am going to go home and dive into my pile of Wolfe mysteries after work now.
:DDDDDDDDDDDDDD I love the books. i love them! i say "them" like i have read more than one but seriously i was hooked long long long before I got to Archie's I QUIT, YOU'RE TOO STUBBORN AND FAT TO WORK FOR and Nero's NONSENSE, I'M NOT ANY FATTER THAN I WAS FIVE YEARS AGO oh my god i love them! and YES MRS. WHATSIT'S FACE BEING MADE UP OF ONLY ANGLES. I love the way Archie describes people. the bit about Edwin's brotherhood of man body language and how it vanished the moment Archie came back around for more questioning struck me the hardest, i think. oh, Archie.
I had planned to read Fer-De-Lance next because I greatly prefer to read series in order! But just for you, I will read In the Best of Families soon, and give you a play-by-play :D ♥!
ok so i realized after i finished And Be a Villain that I should probably read it + Second Confession + In the Best Families in order. so i have held off for a moment on reading the next 2 bc I wanted to read F.D.L. and then figured Black Orchids would be a nice change from the ....oddness of F.D.L. !!! SO i have not gotten to ITBF yet BUT:
i have been spamming twitter nonstop all weekend with squee over the books, and since there appears to be no end in sight i have made a separate twitter account purely for squee and play-by-play reactions, and since this is PARTIALLY YOUR FAULT i thought i would tell you. http://twitter.com/swelltoga
Ugh, the Morgana/Gwen one is lovely! Sad, but sweet.I totally need to watch White Collar. I've heard such good stuff about it and the fic is delicious.
