Store cats

I work at a small independent bookstore in Kansas, and I was just playing with our store cat. Then I got kind of curious about how many other you on here also have store cats. It's a pretty normal thing around here. Most of the stores Downtown have cats, in some cases 3 or more. We'd have more, but little Miss Emily Dickinson just won't have it ( Read more... )

cute cat

One of the people on my Flist opened a store, a few weeks ago and one of the things she did was take a hard to place cat from the shelter. (handsome but older and feline hiv+) My heart allmost broke, store cats are a good thing.

Yeah, we saved Emily here, too. :) A friend of my manager found her as a kitten and couldn't keep her, and since we had been looking for a cat... the rest is history! :) She's about 3 years old now. The local paper even did a story about it. We're a very boring town. lol

Not for those of us who love books and are allergic to cats.

The used bookstore I work in has two cats. (My favorite back in Seattle had SIX at the main location, plus they had a couple of other locations and each also had a cat.) It's lovely to have a cat in my lap while I'm entering books for ABE listings.

Oh my goodness, six at one location! Emily's really territorial, so we can't have any more at the moment.

Ooh, I love that bookstore (I'm assuming Twice Sold Tales)! I've only ever been to the one off of Broadway though.

I wish we could have store pets, but alas, I work for a big chain. We do have a regular customer who is blind who brings his seeing eye dog in. Its the sweetest dog ever. We actually got a complaint from another customer the other day. Apparently, this sweet dog was bother her and asked that it be removed. Apparently, the presence of the quiet dog was bothering her too much and she couldn't read. What about the blind guy... are we supposed to kick him out cuz he needs a dog?!? People suck.

I work for a big chain in Canada, and we allow dogs into the store. I think it's great. I get my doggie dose whenever they're in! I wish more people brought them.

My store (in that same big chain...) LOVES dogs. We had a "Doggie Day" once, and invited all our customers to bring in their dogs for contests and treats, a dog show and prizes. It was GREAT! Most of our managers have dogs, and at some point or another, there's a dog in the store, or in the manager's office. Our regulars bring in their dogs, and the employees with pups (myself included) get swarmed by staff when we bring ours in. I love it. I don't think we've ever had a complaint...except the one time that an ex-manager brought in his jack russel, and it peed by one of our displays...he asked ME to clean it up and I laughed in his face. Then he sheepishly got the paper towels out...hehehe.
