It sounds like you are looking for Play the Odds by Tamlane, unfortunately I don't have a working link for it.

Yep, that definitely sounds like Play the Odds by tamlane. It is posted on her LJ, but it's friends-locked, unfortunately. She was migrating fic over to tams_fic, but it doesn't seem to have made it over there yet.
