Wonderful review. I have always thought that War and Peace goes on and on toward the end (it has almost as many conclusions as The Return of the King) simply because Tolstoy wanted to avoid having to interact with his wife.

Have you read/seen The Last Station? It's about the Tolstoys' relationship in his final days.
