Dreaming a dream to prize,
Is wishing ghosts to rise.
- Thomas Lovell Beddoes

Bellatrix Black had never been this afraid.

She knew that her mother believed that it was the right decision to make. She herself would have done the same. Nevertheless, a feeling of regret and despair had wedged itself into her heart, growing deeper and colder which each deliberating day. Andromeda was a blood traitor, she reiterated to herself, the words forming a diabolical chant that threatened to uproot the very structure of her mind. But they could not reassure her. They could not allay her doubts, her fears that her mother had done something terribly wrong.

Bellatrix set her wand down on the table before she could make ill use of it.

She trudged to the window, her gaze falling upon the street bathed in sunlight. It was a bright, sunlit day. It mocks me, she thought as she stared at the surrounding landscape. A passerby might have though she was searching for someone, awaiting someone’s arrival, the way her eyes flitted back and forth. And in a way, she was.

Bellatrix was waiting for her to awaken from this dark dream. She was waiting for her sister to gently shake her, asking, “Why are you moaning like that? Are you having a bad dream?” She was waiting for Andromeda to shower her lips with kiss after kiss, reassuring her that she would always be there to comfort her sorrows and drown her worries in love. But she waited in vain.
