TVD - 4x15 "Stand By Me" - she's a mad man with a mad plan, and she's standing outside the door

I'm still all feelings and no brain when it comes to this episode, so I should probably have held off on writing this until after the Perspective Fairy came to bop me on the head, but I do stupid things sometimes. Also, it is Saturday and the other thing I have to do today is cleaning my house so the people coming over tomorrow for Oscar Party fun- ( Read more... )

I am running out the door so I can't respond to this awesome post in as much depth as I'd like, but I looooove your reading of the brothers here. Spot on.

And yes, Caroline and Matt were great in this episode. I also loved the council scene with them and Bonnie and Elena--one more throwback to how things were before, but how different they are now.

I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY.

Yeah, that was beautifully shot. I liked the focus on silent Elena at the end of the table, and how that was the moment that finally jarred her into accepting that Jeremy was gone.

It's gotta be okay, or else I'll have to ... drink heavily and shout at people.

I basically agree with everything. OMG I LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT THE BROTHERS FAILED AT LIFE. I especially enjoyed Damon's fuck-up because I fully expected Stefan would fuck up, but I wasn't sure about Damon. Thank God he did. "I can't come back without Bonnie!" OMG. So much incredible character work in one little sentence.

The scene with Elena and Meredith absolutely killed me. "Somebody just get me Bonnie." "Where was your science when you gave me vampire blood?" Might be my favorite scene of the entire episode.

Tumblr is tiresome. I stayed away from it most of yesterday and today.

You are wise and I want to talk some more, but I also want to go to sleep. Choices. choices.

I actually missed that Elena said this the first time around! So it was a nice surprise when I re-watched it. I just like Elena getting angry at people.

I finally made myself block some people and touchy subjects because I was getting too worked up. STOP, STOP WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF WANTING TO SEND ANONYMOUS MESSAGES, is probably a motto I should stitch on something.

only in a way that involved Vampire!Amnesia and Elena trying to kill Stefan for some reason. Okay, yes, there is a deep dark part of me called Morticia that would really like to see the latter, yes, but only in my crack dreams. Not for realsies. Okay, kind of. NO NOT FOR REALSIES, shut up.
Same.

But Elena frames it as "Does that make me a bad person?" She really doesn't know. Her entire good/bad dichotomy has been upended, and who knows when she's going to have time to sift through the ashes and piece it back together.Good point. I think it’s also that one of her principles is to do anything for the people she herself loves, so leaving Jeremy to just be DEAD FOR REAL would feel like a betrayal of him ( ... )

Very true. Especially interesting considering it's so close on the heels of her encouraging alive Jeremy to kill Kol's line of vampires. Obvo, I am evil and do not want her to feel any guilt for this at all--we haven't even gotten any indication that she does feel guilt--but destroying the veil would also rectify this past ~wrong but she doesn't care, which I think is new. Jeremy being dead has made something snap, and now we've transitioned to a don't-look-back, what's-done-is-done (aka very Damon-like) Elena, because trying to sort right from wrong anymore is just too damn confusing. Which is cool. Which is terrifying.

But since he has literally no idea how to be her friend sans a romantic script, he resigns himself to being basically useless and defers to her new beau whom he apparently sees as having the power to dictate whatever she does. Which, really ( ... )
