The woman Alison Lapper has a statue of her up in Trafalgar Square in the centre of London, and the decision to put her, a disabled person, in a public place has aroused controversy. We are so used to putting War Heroes in such places that it is a shock to some to see someone there who is a disabled pacifist. However, ken livingstone is the kind of mayor who wants London to be more inclusive, so good for him in putting the statue up. Googling Alison Lapper will get you lots more images and articles on her.
