They don't even target patently evil merchants or demoniacal slave ships--just ordinary, average-Joe traders trying to make an honest living. I mean, dubya-tee-eff.

Cause real pirates didn't do that. Right.

Right. I think the point is she's saying she lost sympathy for the main characters because instead of being heroic and interesting, they became a couple of douchebag bitches.

The characters are more sympathetic if they have a conscience even if it's not historically accurate to what was described.

Together, they realize that the Brazilian is a very mean man, and decide to escape. But how? Why, by becoming pirates--I mean, Pirates!

I love this book and I still lol'd.

I read this at one point... and I don't remember it all that well... but I thought it was okay. I think.

Yeah, true, but couldn't they have shown a little remorse, had a second thought, perhaps? Maybe they could have acknowledged that in their desperation, the pirates were their only means of escape, and with them, they'd had to do a lot of things they regretted, e.g. stealing & killing. Instead they're just like, "WE'RE PIRATES NOW! THIS IS AWESOME!"

Some people think that's what happened to there all Anne Bonnie since there's no record of her actual execution.

Yeah, but the idea that people like that should be celebrated is ridiculous. So either you're a nice and sympathetic pirate, or a realistic evil one.

There's also the Punch Clock pirate, and the Honorable-Code-Loophole-Artist pirate.
