I have never read it or seen the film strictly because of that famous line. It was too inane to even consider.

The book itself is syrupy and innocent, but that line was what bugged me the most. Love does NOT work that way.

"Love means never having to say you're sorry."
So that's where this line came from? The line is pure fail so if that's the most well-remembered element of this book I think I'll pass . . .
