I don't read ST books anymore because nothing compares to the old ones. I think Diane Duane's 'Spock's World' and Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens 'Federation' were 2 of the best ST pastiches out there (the latter, especially). Hell, all of Peter David's books are AMAZING (I still lol at then cry at 'Q-Squared'). But that teat's been milked dry. Nothing good can come of it (except maybe Reboot fiction...) *shrug*

Bennett is just an author that totally disgusts me. most of the other authors they currently have on board are pretty good. some i would recommend are Keith R.A. DeCandido, David Mack, the awesome duo that is Andy Mangels and Michael A. Martin, S.D. Perry, Britta Dennison, and James Swallow. (you already mentioned Peter David ;))

example: Swallow wrote a Titan book that followed Bennett's mess that is Over a Torrent Sea. absolutely AWESOME. he could teach Bennett a thing or fifty.

and i would be wary of the Abramsverse books whenever they come out, especially as they have Bennett writing two of them (though they've been shelved atm, but who knows if that's his sucky writing or that the reboot isn't as ~popular~ as they thought).

I personally love reboot but only because it's caused an upsurge in that old slash standby, Kirk/Spock. I'm a diehard ST shipper.
