This is all so true, but "Pen Pals" is still not as bad as her even later novels, where she does a complete turnaround from the biting satire I loved to fluffy escapism. I read what I think was her last novel, where the heroine escapes to London and stumbles into love and a career in professional knitting(!), with a constant D: on my face.

At first I didn't believe you and I was going to google but then I was like "do I want to know?" and the answer is no.

wow this almost sounds like a martha stewart fanfic but martha went to jail in 2005 and this book looks like it came out in 2002. i read some of the amazon reviews and am getting the eneral feeling that there was very little research done and that most of the characters are just stereotypes. (the evil warden, movita the black ebonics talking inmate, etc.)
