The vampire-to-human concept sounded interesting, but you lost me with the rest of it.

I tried to read this manga previously, but I couldn't get past the sparkly shoujo!boys. Yeah I like Fruits Basket and all, but the moment I saw one I just wanted someone to beat them with a club, I don't know why. I know, this is YMMV, but I hated the character design and art so much in this manga I couldn't read it.

Haha, I know, the concept of a reverse turning was and is interesting. The plot (or is it?) of this is just so mixed up I don't even know where the rest of the others are anymore. And you never had to wade through all the crap, so at least you spared yourself much of the brain rot material. xDDD

And I agree, however, that too much shojo bubbles is BAD for anyone's mental health. I am amazed how others can stand it. ><;

I think you pinned down why a friend of mine (who actually liked VK somewhat for the first...three volumes or so) dumped the series. Good thing I didn't open the copies I got yet, maybe I can exchange them for cash at Book-Off.

Also, is it really weird that I saw the covers for some of the mangaka's other works, and until I peeked in there, I thought they were VK? I think the fact that a lot of her male characters (to me) look almost the same is another point against her.

Agreed - the male protagonist in MeruPuri looks creepily like Kuran Kaname, especially from the first volumes of Vampire Knight.

About your friend - LOL, we could go on and on as to why this series just progressively gets worse with each chapter.

Characters don't behave in ways someone of their personality's supposed to.

Kaname alone, who's supposed to be wiser than anyone, has been a doting moron all along. ._.;

That was the most frusterating part of Vampire Knight for me, everytime I was ready to give up, something cool happens. And then the cool thing goes pffft, and I had to wade through crap, and well, rinse and repeat.

I picked this up once, but to be honest, I couldn't tell the characters apart well enough to begin to follow the plot. Either way, from what I've heard, and from what you've said, it's creepy incest and wimpy poorly written vampires, so I'm glad I didn't bother. (I don't like Shoujo to begin with for the most part.)

Death Note ruined me for all other manga anyway, the art and plot were too good for anything else to compare.

Anyway, as to the Vampire becoming human angle, in Anne Rice's Tale of the Body Thief Lestat temporarily becomes human.

Creepy incest WITH Pedophelia.
All these dark twists are all very well in and only in an impressively-written story, which, well, for a shoujo manga, just doesn't happen.

Yes, that only works in novels Meant to be creepy.

Putting those in a shoujo story which rarely has any real depth is just.... -doesnt even know how to word it anymore-.

I dropped off around like...chapter ten, with this manga. I'm a very character-based reader, if there's no interesting characters then I can't be arsed to keep reading. And there was just no one likeable in this thing.

Plus I didn't really like the art. I had one slot for shoujo-boy stuff and Fruits Basket has/will always occupy it. At least there were good characters in that one.

And furthermore, you mentioned Yuuki being some Secret Heir to the Throne thing? Man, I hate surprise royalty. Even figuratively. I don't know why, it just seems like a tired old trope that's been beaten to death. :\

UGH. I know. She's supposed to be the youngest pureblood princess blah blah and she doesn't even have enough brains to remember to bring her wallet if she goes out of the house. ~_~

Man every time I see the abbreviated title of this shit I think of Manfred von Karma from the Ace Attorney games.

And I'm like WAIT VK-oh, it's that.

I know this comment is unhelpful but I thought I'd share.
