I read this last weekend and spent a lot of time since pondering how the ending could have been more satisfactory. Abby had good reasons for turning Miles down, and that Miles didn't quite understand seemed like an issue. A manageable issue, probably, rather than a red flag, but still an issue.
Not getting married straight away definitely would have been a good plan.
Or if they had and temporarily settled nearby, so Abby could still see Selina and Fanny. Or if Selina and Fanny had been complicit in the abduction somehow - if Abby had said, I don't have a toothbrush, and Miles had responded with, Yes, your sister has packed that sort of thing for you...
