It's Saturday! I am in my office doing work! The reason for this is that this upcoming week is the Big Conference of Epicness that my entire job revolves around, which means that today I am frantically printing out all the lists of Things I Need to Do And Places I Need To Be. In other words, this is basically a notice of absence - I may be ( Read more... )

I have not seen the past more than a few episodes of FMA, not read the relevant portions of the manga, but from what I remember of the first anime his brother only gave him the tattoos? Or possibly I am completely wrong about that! I really should catch up.

You should! I kind of loved the most recent episodes. But finish Princess Tutu first *cough*

I don't know, man, all I saw was Scar lying there on the battlefield MINUS AN ARM, and then the brother was all, "I WILL SACRIFICE TO SAVE MY BROTHER!" and then next thing Scar is waking up in the hospital all "Oh hey, there's my brother, I see his arm - WAIT THIS ARM IS ATTACHED TO ME WHAT THE HELL!!!!"

I knowwww, I knowwww...and I will, I promise!

...that is pretty believable for this series actually. I once tried to make a count of every limb lost, but I think that is a futile exercise. There is an episode in the original series, not the second or the manga, where after Ed's automail arm is destroyed and he's going to get it fixed a little girl steals his leg. (Al, sans all his limbs, was stolen by someone else.) Seriously, you kind of have to wonder if the manga-ka has something against appendages...

:D!

I like to imagine there is just a pile of limbs somewhere backstage and the mangaka sits atop it cackling to herself. THAT IS AMAZING. *cracking up* They did the episode where the little girl stole his emo locket, but the leg is something else again!

Aaaah, it's a different book. That might be why that part of the story felt super-unresolved and like it had no point other than "ohai! this is why the x kingdom is in extreme shambles."

I mean, granted, he turns out to be pretty cool, taming the X.

Oh yeah! Like I said, I like Taiki a lot - and that was a pretty awesome moment. But it is not fair on him really, because there was no way he could live up to my EPIC LOVE for Yoko. I think I will like him better as a side character in later books - from what I understand, all those storylines get intertwined in the later books, the ones that the anime never got around to. (But I could be wrong.)

Eeeenteresting.

Yeah, as far as Taiki goes, we learn his story, how he found his king, and then.... poof disappearance and you NEVER HEAR ABOUT IT AGAIN other than the occasional "yeah x kingdom is missing their king and their kirin. Sucks to be them."

SPOILERS? bookelfe September 12 2009, 21:08:31 UTC
Yeah, we find out that Taiki and his king are missing even in Sea of Shadows, which makes the ending of Sea of Wind pretty strange in and of itself - it's all happy ending, but you know SOMETHING BAD is going to happen a few years down the line, so . . . not so happy maybe! It also makes me not want to wait a year to read further on in the series. *makes faces at Tokyopop*

I have not read the Twelve Kingdoms books, but I do have some of the anime. Should you be Interested. Just Saying.

I am indeed Interested! I kind of want to read all the way through the fourth book first, though - I think that is as far as the anime got - which comes out in . . . February? I think? And then after that I don't need to worry about spoilers. :D

(You should read the books! I am kind of in love with the first one. And this one was good too!)

I am pretty sure that, yes, that is his brother's arm! There is an attatchment scar on his upper right arm, above the tattoos, so... yeah.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I KNEW IT! OH ANIME. Because just losing your arm in battle is SIMPLY NOT TRAUMATIC ENOUGH. *dying*

You make these sounds fascinating, and I am requesting them from the library as fast as I can!

I will look forward to hearing your thoughts! (I should probably warn that the translation can be pretty clunky, but I love the characters enough that it's easy to ignore.)
