I remember when I was 14 I moved from a school where I had 70 people in my grade, to one with 450! It's a big change, but as young as he is I'm sure he'll do fine. *hugs you*
I thrived there, actually; the smaller school was really clique-y, and I was on the bottom of the social ladder with almost no friends. The move to the bigger school was great because I had no history there so I made friends easily. In fact I'm still close with most of them 17 years after graduation.

The schools do sound small, but that is a huge change from what you're used to! I'm sure he had a great day =)
