Ok so very dumb question...

I just need some opinions from the general public... This may seem very obvious but I just want some other opinions... what is the general thought about Harry being the heir of Gryffindor?

I think JKR shot this theory down in the Mugglenet interview. I seem to remember seeing an interview with her recently that said as much, but I can't remember which it is. I *think* Mugglenet, but I can't bring myself to go back and reread it to find out. Maybe if someone else remembers?

Oh, and I don't think it's a dumb question at all, by the way. It comes up all the time in fic. I'm just pretty sure it came up with JKR recently...

I agree! Not at all a dumb question. JKR definitely took it seriously. And welcome to the group, too! ;-)

Yes, the interview did SEEM to put an end to that theory. Here's what was said:

MA: What about Harry's family - his grandparents - were they killed ( ... )

Harry being heir of Gryffindor? I don't think it's a dumb question, but I've never personally believed it to be true. It's always seemed a little too cliché to me. And then there's JKR's interview, of course.

I love your icon by the way! *loves that quotation* Hurrah for Ron and Hermione! :D

Thats an interesting theory.I wouldn't have been surprised if Harry was the Gryffindor heir. Another we should all remember...in the first book, the sorting hat wanted to put Harry in Slytherins but since Harry didn't want to go there, it put him in Gryffindor.

I don't think that carries any weight though, and not least for what you yourself said. The Sorting Hat was inclined to put Harry in Slytherin, which, if being the heir of an original Head of House carried weight, would have meant that Harry was a Slytherin heir ( ... )
