Summary/warnings: Part of the 100 theme challenge. Didn't try too hard, just kind of blathered away. Mori's a loyal kind of guy. Rubbishy fluff.

The shadow cast was both familiar and easily distinct. Haruhi didn't have to turn around to know, Morinozuka was looming just behind her.
Strong, silent, and of an imposing sort of height; Mori was a one-man fortress, a tower, built to keep maidens far from danger.
Haruhi was far from being a maiden, and never really thought of herself as needing much defending, if any. Sometimes Mori's stubbornly protective nature bordered on the annoying. Silently, he insisted that he play watchdog for her with every second of his freetime.
Haruhi didn't fully approve. She would have said so too, except that it wasn't just her. Mori's loyal attitude extended to a small number of other people. He wasn't playing favorites, just taking care of the people close to his heart.
That was how the tall towers of a fortress worked; they don't pick and chose the people who need protecting. But the ones that did manage to climb their way to the top would always be well kept.
Behind her, Morinozuka said nothing. He didn't really have to. Haruhi knew by the way his shadow fell over her, and by his distinct quiet that he was letting her know, "I'm right here."
Haruhi smiled to herself, her body language conveying a small trace of acknowledgment.
She was far from being a maiden, but she supposed she could still appreciate the comfort of a tall tower.
