As long as it's safe, I would encourage it and still stress the need for condoms when he felt he was ready for sex.

Encourage, yes, just as I'd encourage my daughter to go on birth control if she was sexually active.

Require? Probably not. Unless he was bopping a ton of girls (oh dear god, I hope not), but I would definitely require him get tested for STDs if he was going to continue to do shit in an unsafe way.

I don't think I would encourage any of my children to introduce hormones into their bodies. If they wanted to do it I would fully support them but there are other methods of birth control which do not involve hormone injections.
