I would say it all depends on the kid, how much information s/he has to work with, and how much s/he has bothered to think about it.

I can't remember ever being anti-abortion, but I also don't remember anyone ever talking to me about abortion very much at all.

My daughter is six and very much pro-choice . . . she can't understand why anyone else would give a damn if someone didn't want to be pregnant and aborted a fetus. Will she still be pro-choice in five years? Ten? Twenty? I have no idea, I can only hope for the best. I really don't want to think my own kid turned out to be an asshole.

Yes, all pro-life people are assholes. I'm so glad you're still as open-minded as ever, Jessy.

I disagree with most of what Jessy says, but I don't understand why people have to be "open-minded" to the pro-life position? I don't think that random people have a right to say what goes on in my body, and I think that wanting to take away my reproductive rights is pretty much an asshole position.

I'm not a fan of generalizing or making blanket statements, and I wouldn't say that all pro-life people are assholes, but their opinions are offensive and hurtful, and I don't feel that I have to tolerate them or pretend that "oh, it's just their opinion."

I'm talking about being open-minded enough to see beyond one opinion. I disagree very strongly with a lot of conservative opinions on it not being the responsibility of everyone to take care of the weakest. I think it's a kind of asshole thing to think, but I don't assume everyone who is a conservative is an asshole.

Oh, good. We've never talked about this before.

Depends on the parents, if you have a parent who is honest and presents both sides of the argument as well as the facts, I think you'd have a pro-choice child on your hands. If you drill into their heads that abortion is murder and a zygote is a baby, then yeah, congrats, most likely that kid will be anti-choice.

If for some unknown reason I have a Republican child (everybody say a Hail Mary and knock on wood for this one) I would never force them to think like me, or believe what I believe. That's why I'm pro-choice, it's up to the girl/woman, not me.

I would certainly prefer that a pregnant child of mine have an abortion, but I would never PUSH it. That's not pro-choice.

Wow...that's kind of insulting. "Well any intelligent, reasonable person would fall on my side of the issue."

Thanks.

Lol that's TOTALLY what I said. If you present misinformation and lies and make no attempt to explain what the other side says, the kid will end up parroting whatever you say. This could happen if you're pro-choice or anti-choice.

I wasn't talking about all anti-choice parents, just the ones who lie and misinform.

I think she should be aware as soon as possible.
No, it won't matter to me. Just as long as she isn't ANTI choice and doesn't pull that crazy shit I'm cool with it.
I'm going to tell her what I believe, but I'm going to let her know that it's always going to be her choice, to not let anyone ever try to persuade her.

I think that happens on an individual basis at varying ages. I was in my twenties before I had a clear cut opinion on the topic.

If my 16 yr old daughter gets pregnant, I think she should be allowed to decide what she wants to do. She is the one who will be carrying a baby and should not be forced to keep or terminate the pregnancy.

I'm confused by the last question. How would I be the opposite of what I believe? Do you mean telling someone to keep a baby if you had an abortion? I don't get it. I would treat her with the same respect I treat myself.

i think she left a word out
Would you push what you believe on them even if you knew that they were the opsite of what you were?

Oh gotcha. Yeah I guess I would a little just to make sure they weren't keeping the baby out of guilt. But, if they really wanted to keep the baby then I'd be ok with that...and probably sprout some gray hair immediately.

I don't think I fully understood MY stance on that issue until I WAS 16 and pregnant. I just KNEW that *I* could never abort a child.... up until I had become pregnant I didn't care one way or the other.

.... and No, I would never PUSH my beliefs on my child, yet I would make sure that my child were to know all of the consequences for any choice that she may make.
