Since the election, your 3-7 year old child has gone around saying that he's a Republican/Democrat/Green Party/Other Party member. You and your husband both voted for this party and explained to him why you were doing so. He or she is very actively bringing this up, once or twice a day in his/her daycare or to you or to whoever he/she is around. No ( Read more... )

At that age I would just shrug it off unless it became a problem somehow. Kids go through phases, and it's something cute to write down and embarrass them with later when they are 15 and rebelling by being totally the opposite of your political choices.

I'd tell them to STFU because if I gave a shit what someone with the IQ of a 3-7 year old thought about politics, I would have listened to Bush's speeches.

How would you confront them or discuss it with them?

They aren't hurting anyone so no, I wouldn't do anything. Kids look up to their parents and if parents are talking about something constantly it is only natural that the child would want in on it. Of course a child of that age wouldn't understand what this means. Hell a lot of adults don't even know what their own political parties are all about.

Seems like harmless childhood repetition to me. Meh.

If it's not bothering anyone, I don't see a reason to make them stop. They're only going to think I have all the answers for a few more years.

Nah, not a big deal. I might tell the kid to knock off if it started getting annoying, but that can happen with anything a kid repeats over and over.

And hey, if they grow up and want to keep voting just like Mommy (y'know, once they actually can vote), no problem there. I mean, I hope by that point they can think critically and make the decision for themselves but if they do that right they'll obviously agree with me anyway.
