In your opinion, how important is it to definitively determine the zygosity of twins - whether they are identical or fraternal?

Do you believe that identical twins are "cooler" than fraternal twins?

Semi-important for possible medical purposes. And yes, way cooler. But not as people, just biologically speaking.

As a mom of twins, if I had same-sex twins...unless they were obviously fraternal...I would for sure have had them tested. If only so that I could know how to answer the myriad questions about whether they were fraternal or not (which happens *all the time* with same-sex twins, even if they are obviously fraternal...heck, I've been asked that a couple of times even through I have boy/girl twins). I do think it's important for medical reasons, but probably only when that medical need arises. Other than that, just for curiosity more than anything. Cooler? Nah. I think boy/girl twins are way cooler because it's like and ongoing experiment in different-sex personalities.

I get SOOOOO tired of stupid twin questions, and I can't even imagine how irritating it would be to be/have boy-girl twins and be asked if they're fraternal.

Seriously, I had this convo once:
"OOOH are they twins"
"yes"
"Are they boys, girls?"
"Boy and Girl"
"Oh, how do you tell them apart?"
"I open their diapers"

HEHEHEHEHEHE

I just spit juice all over my monitor. That's just an awesome response.

I would want to know, and I assume they would, too.

All I think about twins is that they're really more work than I want.

My mom said that once we were out of the diaper stage, we were less work, because we kept each other entertained.

Not exactly more work, repetitive work, heh.

Well, I think it is very important. If they are identical, you have to divorce your spouse and split them up, so that they meet in a summer camp and get together, years later. If they are fraternal, you have to send them to Witch Mountain. DUH.

Medically speaking? Not all that important, but it's something I'd want to know if i was pregnant with twins.

No, I think identical twins are creepy. I'd always hope for fraternal. :X

Haha, no! I'm biased because my Mom was an identical twin and she and her sister were seriously creepy - they did a lot of outfit coordination into their 40s. I have memories of not knowing which one my mother was. :O

Ick... No way I'd go for that. I've always been really stubborn about being myself, though. Although... that said, my sister and I often unintentionally coordinate our outfits (not same exact thing, but very very similar WRT colors and patterns.)
