Sentinel nostalgia....

I've been experiencing a resurgence of interest in Sentinel-fanfic, not sure why.  My mother's father recently died*, so it's possible I'm feeling really nostalgic 'remember the good times' feelings as a way to deal, but anyway....

So, Sentinel fandom and Highlander were the first fandoms, at the same time, that I found myself involved in.  I know ( Read more... )

I am so happy to catch a post by you! I'm hugely fond of the Highlander fandom right now. Except for a couple of people, but that's a conversation for privacy and ranting.

As the years have passed, and a certain person was voted in as pres of the U.S. I've found it harder to be blithe about some of what I used to like in fanfic. Sometimes, for the GDP, what I had trouble with was the sheer darkness. Now, though, I'm starting to think that was all too realistic. Ugh, today's politics!!!

Thank you for the long-winded rant! Yeah, things a lot of the time were too Blaire-only. There were some, though. I remember one set in space. Genetic engineering had created too many unstable Sentinels and Guides were hard to come by... Besides Blaire, there were several other Guides, and some good sub-stories.

Another thing that often ended up with me scratching my head was that putting Sentinels and Guides into compelled pairings where they can't have sex with anyone else (especially as those were always same-sex pairings)? No wonder there were so few of each. No one's passing on their genes!

lol, yeah. i often thought that at least 95% of that scene with Sen 2, Part 2 where Jim and what's-er-face were just extremely almost having sex on the beach had to be because of the drive to reproduce. I remember there were a lot of 'Jim is a dick' fic responses to that, but honestly, the whole thing... to me, i'm like 'hey, reproductive cycle time!' because otherwise, yeah, if Sentinels and Guides are genetic, and don't get to pass on their genes....
