Sniping

Perusing headlines a couple weeks ago I came across one that shows Snipes getting three years for not paying his taxes. I read the People Magazine and BBC News articles and though this result seemed a bit harsh. I then read the AP article which reveals things like he was trying to encourage people in his employ to not pay taxes, so obviously this ( Read more... )

I'm guessing the implication from news outlets is that the public only has the attention span for news bites and prepackaged knowledge. I wonder what it is that they teach in journalism class these days? Is the new process:

(1) Come up with a message you want to convey
(2) Find subject matter that is some what close
(3) Read about it on wikipedia
(4) Find a couple of blogs that mention it, that fit your goals
(5) Write and publish article

I have to believe the editorial process has gone to hell too. About half the stories I read on major sites have as many misspellings and grammatical errors as my blog posts, and that's pretty damn pathetic.
