Wouldn't you have to wear covered shoes, since it's a food prep area? Or is that only in Australia?

In PA, the only reason I've heard to wear covered shoes while at any job is because you don't want something to fall on your feet and break a toe.

But don't wear steel toed boots! Mythbusters imitated an accident where some pipes landed on a guy's foot ... The ends slid DOWN the metal part and severed the toe clean off.

Actually, they were disproving that myth. It took them a helluva lot of weight with JUST the right amount of surface area and JUST the right placement to actually make the boot caps do that. They concluded that it's best to wear the steel-toes anyway, because otherwise your foot would be completely crushed in many circumstances. The toe-severing took a lot of work to create.
