Spike Jonze has been working on this movie since 2005. He hasn't gotten paid in 4 years. He said, "this needs to be a success or else I don't know how I'm going to feed my kids."
I love that they took a 15 page book about being an animal and turned it into a coming of age story that is all about the emotions you go through when you get older.
"Max now has an absent father, an older sister who’s outgrowing him, and a mother who’s too busy to spend time with him. Combined with a difficult school-life, Max’s frustrations cause him to remove himself further and further from reality, until, eventually, he steps into the woods of the Wild Things and becomes their king."
