strange math

I feel like my Coupon Queen friend Pam. Just got back from a short trip to CVS where I purchased:

$7.49 - Loreal Mascara
$5.30 - Dreyers ice cream
$1.09 - State sales tax
$0.09 - Total paidWhaaaaaaaaaat?! But it's true. I combined coupons, used some Extra Value Bucks, hit up a sale, and got reward money back. Feeling mighty proud of myself ... and ( Read more... )

Wow! I have another friend on LJ that does the CVS thing. We don't have them around here, but we had them in RI and PA when we lived there years ago. Makes me wonder how CVS even makes a profit. ;)

Wow....you have a HUGE sales tax. Does CA tax food, too?

I haven't quite figured out the sales tax here yet. Yes, it's high! Some food is taxed (ice cream), but pre-made sushi is not. Some produce is taxed, some is not. Some cans are taxed, some are not. It's whacked. There is one store, however, that works the tax into the price of the items and I LOVE that!
