You know, Dr. Spock's ideas still make a lot of anti-fundi sense. :-)

They have been so distorted in the USA by the rightwing! They're not "permissive" in the sense that his enemies mean. His message was basically that parents are the adults, they're in charge, kids are programmed to love them, and so there's no need for any hysterical emphasis on discipline and blind obedience.

Incongruously, I'm heavily influenced in my fightback against fundyism at the moment by the amount of True Blood I'm watching - I decided I liked it as soon as I saw the sign "God Hates Fangs" in the opening credits. It's a lovely commentary on religion, sex and morality, disguised as a vampire story.
