It's an Intel 2 Duo processor with an 800 FSB and a 2MB cache (as opposed to the next one up with a 1066 FSB and 3M cache). The opportunity cost of a pair of shoes argument convinced me and I went for the cheaper option in the end.

It's not going to be a little processor lag that pushes this computer into "annoying and must be replaced" territory in the long run - my current one is there because it's not a laptop, the dvd drive sounds like a low-flying aircraft and doesn't work properly, the graphics card is underspecced, the power supply fan is very noisy and taken altogether it's not worth solving each problem one at a time, especially since it's all about PCI express cards these days.

But it's going to be shiny! And red! And I can burn my own DVDs, and plug it into the stereo to play music, and stay in the warm room while doing so. Just need to get the long-distance network cable working.
