Aww, cute kitties. :) I've found it's a lot simpler to just adopt other people's pets. You get to do the fun stuff without all the responsibility.

I have kind of a cat-share going with one of our neighbors. Two of her sweeties love to get into open apartments and schmooze for a while.

We shared a cat at ALEP. Buster was a resident of the farm, but slept in our room for two nights. ;)
