From my understanding, on reviving the spirit of the Fairness Doctrine, which is: a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was (in the Commission's view) honest, equitable and balanced ( Read more... )

Sometimes I think that there are some frequencies/networks which do not really air out both sides of the story on purpose. It might be because of bias, of political affiliations, of whatever. Nowadays, media can either be bought or biased.

But I agree, people (not just Americans in general) are in a better position to make a decision when they know both sides.

As for NHK and SC/P, Hmm, i'm guessing that if JE paid for the time slot, no one can do anything about it. If the offer (of the SC/P show) came from NHK, (specifically formatted for JE talents) then maybe it might actually be a wee bit biased. NHK is still a public station after all. But if it makes money, it makes money.

Though I also wouldn't mind seeing SC/P go. I stopped watching since all the cool people left.

I think that's the reason the idea to re-implement this came up in the first place -- there is a crazy imbalance on radio, and so it's become very controversial. On one hand, if it's the right that has the money, I see how they think this is unfair, but if it really is about issues that are important to the public, I think the government does have a stake in making sure people are informed.

this is so ridiculous! There are obviously always programs which will focus on certain group of talents. (there is a special program for only AKB48. is that fair? lol)

i'm pretty optimistic about the situation though -- some organizations' power shouldn't influence the current situation to the level where NHK could ignore its markets and audience, right??

lol. i love SC premium >< and i got into johnny's because of SC! T_T

Personal opinion: it's all about demand and supply.
hey, if they have the money to create the program and the rating to support it....that's all it matters....
