Hey Gwenda, if there's any other way that you can pay for school besides loans, I suggest it. (Excepting more extreme money-makers like prostitution.) I got a FAFSA loan for two years of grad school, and it totaled $32,000 that I'll be paying off for the next nine years. Student loans are teh suck.

There's a book called Cash for Grad School that you might want to try and find.

I'm hoping not to have to finance it all with loans, but such is the way of the world. At least they have lowish interest rates, etc. I already have a few thousand in student loans left over from my undergrad days.

And the Generation Debt lady says it's okay to go into hock to the feds for grad school.

Yay!
Are you going to be there in January? Will I get to meet you live and in person??
That's so cool. AND... a scholarship...that means they think you're super worthy.
Congratulations.

Hey, congrats!

Which program are you going to be in? The YA/Children's Lit program looks really interesting to me.

As for loans, I went into some pretty heavy debt for grad school (just paid it off, a full decade after graduating), but it got me out of retail, so I still think it was totally worth it.

Yep, that's the one (YA/Children's) -- everything I've found out about it is great... believe me, I tried to find a carping grad or someone to dish the dirt, but everyone who's been through it (or taught there) that I talked to was very positive about it. I feel like it will be a Very Good Thing, so I'm not going to worry about the cost, etc., right now. It feels right, so I'm trusting my instincts. Plus, Karen Joy Fowler and Kelly Link (and a bunch of other people, but, really, who could argue with those two) told me it was a good idea and I should do it; who am I to dispute their wisdom?
