I Always Suspected That Does Not Mean What You Think it Does. I Was Right!

Last night as I was scrolling through the FML app for Android, I came across one posted by a woman who had just been informed that the Chinese character for "strength" she had tattooed on her lower back actually translated to "slut". I couldn't help but LOL. As if to justify my long-held suspicions about Chinese character tattoos, their ridiculous ( Read more... )

I always thought that it was pretty stupid to get a tattoo in a language you don't speak. And I think the spelling of "womyn" is completely idiotic. But that's just me. :P

This. 110% this.

The notion of taking back language that so pervaded the 90's always made me vomit. "Herstory" instead of "history", "womyn"...all of it. ZOMG no. Just...no.

I always wondered about that too. I know that writing in most Asian languages is an art form that western writing could never achieve - and one minor stroke can fully change the meaning of a word. So to hear that the "penmanship" is usually terrible also answers something I've often wondered.

And your personal observation on getting a Gackt tattoo made me laugh out loud for sure. XD

O! M! G! And your post is friends-locked... may I please-please-please quote at least the phrase: "And one day I realized that I've been seein' a whole lotta cracker-assed suburban-bred cheerleader cum eco-intelligentsia-warrior types (with an eye always toward makeup and fashion) sporting Asian symbol tattoos"?

Because that just slays me.

I will un-friends-lock it momentarily and then you can send the whole thing viral if you so choose. XD

Thank you!
