I like this. It's just... right. Both of these men in this situation. Lying to each other, convincing themselves, the helplessness of New Caprica... You really got a lot in a very short amount of space.

This is really good and very economic in its writing. I love the ambiguity of the title too. The first two lines especially really slayed me.

One thing I was wondering about here:
His tone, borderline defiant, should conceal the tired defeat in his eyes. The fact that his hands are trembling slightly.

I realized that these two sentences could apply to either one of them. Who does it refer to, or did you mean it to remain ambiguous?

I had Baltar in mind, and didn’t even realise it read as ambiguous before you brought it up!
