If you stuff them with sand (any beaches nearby?) or fine woodshavings (try any local furnitue making store and ask if you can have a small bag), every time you push your pins into it, they'll get sharpened. Cotton or rags or polyfil can dull pins over time (not horribly, but still).

Ooh thanks for the tip!...how did you find that little bit of information out?

I got enough sand to last me for a while...being in CA and all...not to far from the beach :D

Hehe, my mum shared that one with me but who knows where she learnt it from originally.

You might want to wash the sand a few times before using it just in case there's any cooties or anything in it, but other than that it sounds like you're living near a natural pincushion factory!
