It took about one hour and a half to find the said hospital, because there were two of them near the apartment where Alexander lived. When he called the boy to ask him which floor they were on, his answering machine informed Soohyun the cell phone was off. He cursed under his breath and told Kibum they’d have to look in each floor and got a positive answer. Kibum was surely being quite a nice guy.
What it seemed like an eternity later, Soohyun spotted Eli sitting on a waiting couch and dashed to him, Kibum right behind him. When he neared him, he saw that Alexander had his head on Eli’s shoulder, half asleep.
“Hyung,” he called and barely open eyes turned to him and widened considerably.
“You came,” he muttered with a sad voice and got on his feet to hug Soohyun. “I hope it wasn’t any trouble for you.”
Soohyun shushed him and eyed him seriously.
“How is Kevin?”
“The doctor said he was fine but didn’t tell us what happened, he was busy, I guess. He should come back soon,” Alexander explained, going back to the couch, followed by both Soohyun and Kibum. “You probably had no reason worry and come, it was stupid of me to even call you. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Alexander,” Soohyun said sharply and put a hand on his back. “It was no problem.”
The thing about Alexander was that he was easily scared when it came to health issues, mainly when it involved people fainting. When he was about seven, one of his playing mates passed out when they were at his home. At first, he thought the boy was sleeping and didn’t do anything. When his mom went to check on them and saw the kid’s unconscious body in front of the couch, she got so desperate it frightened Alexander.
Few days later, his friend died and he got it into his mind it had been his fault because he hadn’t done anything earlier. He told Soohyun that story when his roommate at college played a prank on him by pretending to be dead and he went insane and didn’t talk to the guy for two months. Soohyun said it was stupid to think he had any responsibility for an unfortunate death, but he seemed quite convict of his own culpability. This whole trouble with Kevin might have awakened those memories in him and he probably thought he’d show up dead any time later.
Soohyun frankly didn’t realize it when Kibum left. That was until the boy returned with two cups of coffee in his hand and offered them to Alexander and Eli, who blinked at him.
“I had to handle an incredibly rude old lady at the cafeteria so you better drink it all,” he said with a soft smile and Soohyun thought it was amazing how a person sounded so nice and sharp at the same time. Alexander returned the smile and both he and Eli took the cups and thanked him. “I’m Kim Kibum, by the way. Not the nicest way of meeting someone, but well.”
“Oh, the teacher,” Alexander remembered having heard that name before. “Alexander and this,” he pointed to Eli, who nodded shortly, “is Eli. Thank you for putting up with Soohyun,” he said like a mother worried about an anti-social son would, “I don’t know how he gets by without me at all.”
Soohyun hit his arm but Kibum snorted and he apparently had liked Alexander instantly. Nice to know making fun of him brought people together.
“Are you friends of Woo Kevin?”
They turned to look at the doctor who pointed to the direction of the room where Kevin was. When they all followed him, he raised a hand, standing before the door.
“One of you will have to stay,” he warned and Kibum volunteered to go back to the waiting room. They went in and saw an unusually pale Kevin under the sheets, his face lightening up at seeing them. He waved and smiled when Eli ruffled his hair.
“What happened to Kevin-sshi was not due to any diseases, if that’s what worries you” he said and Alexander got much more relieved. “He ingested an overdose of a barbiturate, a sort of drug people call bluebirds or sleepers. Obviously, it wasn’t lethal, but it was very dangerous, nevertheless. Some attackers give it to their victims to impair their coordination and capacity of reaction, facilitating attempts of kidnapping or rape.”
All eyes turned worriedly to Kevin.
“Oh my God,” Eli breathed out, putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Higher doses usually don’t lead to fainting, but since Kevin-sshi explained me he hadn’t eaten the entire day, that was the cause.”
“But I don’t understand,” Kevin said slowly. “I didn’t take anythi- Oh,” he put a hand over his mouth. When they waited and he just kept silent, they urged him to talk. “Well, there was this guy who started talking a lot to me. It’s actually normal, so I didn’t see anything wrong. He offered to buy me a drink and I said I wasn’t allowed. Then he gave me a bonbon and I told him I’d save it for later. He insisted for me to eat but I didn’t want to, so I denied.”
“Then what does it have to do with anything?” Alexander raised an eyebrow.
“Well, I put it in my bag and forgot about it. We came home and I went to sleep, but I woke up in the middle of the night because I was hungry since we hadn’t had time to eat the entire day. And I remembered the bonbon and ate it because I didn’t want to eat a lot in the middle of night. I brushed my teeth and went back to sleep, that’s all I remember.”
The doctor gave a reprimanding look and signed his authorization to leave the hospital.
“You’re good to go, so I won’t hold you back in here. Go eat something now and try not to starve or accept food or beverages from strange people, kid,” he said and gave a pat on Kevin’s shoulder before leaving them. Right after, a nurse came in to help him with his clothes and all.
Alexander slapped his arm.
“You’re an idiot, do you know how worried I was?” he said, his eyes watery and a part of Soohyun wanted to laugh, but he contained himself. “Everyone knows you’re not supposed to eat things somebody gives to you!”
“I was hungry!” Kevin protested. “Anyway, I’m going to change now,” he said and walked with some difficulty to the bathroom.
After Kevin was ready to go, they went a nearby restaurant so he’d finally have something to eat. Eli and Alexander were blissfully glad, since they also hadn’t eaten, with all the rush after the saw Kevin and all, while Kibum and Soohyun just tagged along.
“Honestly, that was very dumb of yours,” Kibum said after they explained the situation to him. Kevin just blinked, obviously surprised by the harsh comment that came from someone he didn’t know at all. “I mean, I had some students missing on class because of incidents like that but you’re what, nineteen? You should have known better.”
Kevin eyed him, not finding anything to say, so he just stayed silent and apparently decided he didn’t like the guy. Soohyun nudged Kibum, who shrugged, but Eli started another conversation so things wouldn’t get more awkward.

Soohyun was procrastinating while he could and spending time on the internet. Reading news and listening to music easily entertained him so he casted the tests he had to correct aside and just kept on in his leisure.
Scrolling the page down, something got his attention. A pedophile was arrested after raping a fourteen year old at a city of the far west of South Korea. At first, he’d got interested in it due to what happened to Kevin but then something clicked inside him.
If a thirty year old molesting a scholar was a pedophile who deserved prison, what did it mean he was? A growing sensation of discomfort rushed over his body and he shifted on the chair. If somebody found out… He’d thought it’d be bad, but he hadn’t stopped to analyze just how bad it would be. It occurred to him he’d be fired and have a bad reputation, but just now he realized it wasn’t as simple as that.
No one would believe a kid had tempted him in the way Dongho did, he could barely believe it himself. He had lied to Kibum about the boy so many times, just how much would he keep buying? If Kibum hadn’t started raising suspicions by now. He seemed to like to keep a low profile, maybe he already had something in mind.
Repeating to himself that nothing too bad had happened yet, he closed his laptop and got to the tests, eager to have some distraction from those dreadful thoughts. He purposefully left Dongho’s class’ tests for last. As hours went by, though, he had the boy’s test in his hands. There was a rushed doodle of a heart next to Soohyun’s name in the teacher field. He put a hand to his forehead - that kid had no idea of how much trouble he could cause. It was so bold and cheesy and Soohyun hated himself a little more for actually liking it.
Erasing the heart before reading the answers, he made his mind up. Nothing too bad had happened and he certainly wasn’t willing to let it happen.

“Shin Dongho,” he called firmly as the classroom started emptying. Dongho looked at him, unaware, and walked to his table. “I need to talk to you today.”
Giving a small smirk only Soohyun could see, Dongho nodded.
“What is it about, songsaengnim?” he asked innocently, having a pretty clear idea, as his eyes could tell.
“Your grade on my test,” he said in his normal voice before lowering it to a whisper. “Come to my room after classes.”
Dongho’s smirk widened and he agreed before living. Seeing the glint in his eyes, Soohyun sighed. That wouldn’t be easy.
As promised, after the school shift was done, Dongho was at his door. He opened it and let the boy in, drying his hair from the shower he’d just taken. Once they were in private, Dongho bit his lower lip and put both hands on Soohyun’s chest, getting as close as he could, not noticing the grim look on his teacher’s face.
“I’m so eager for our discussion you don’t even know,” he muttered against Soohyun’s neck, making his lips move up slowly. Soohyun closed his eyes and enjoyed the younger boy’s heat against him because it wouldn’t be felt again. He reached for Dongho’s wrists and urged him back.
“I need to talk to you, Dongho,” he said, trying not to stare at his lips and be rational for once. Dongho raised a brow.
“Is this really about my grade? I thought I had done ok,” he frowned. Soohyun just made him sit on the bed and folded his arms before looking at him straight in the eyes.
“Listen carefully,” he started and the boy just blinked. “Whatever thing that has been going on between us has got to stop as soon as possible. And, by that, I mean now.”
Dongho was obviously confused. He furrowed his brows and waited until Soohyun explained further because he was too horny to make sense of what he had just said.
“I don’t want you to keep, well, touching me and I certainly will stop touching back,” he was very uncomfortable saying that. “This,” he moved his hand back and forth between the two of them, “cannot happen. So let’s stop it while it hasn’t gotten serious, ok?”
Getting back on his feet, Dongho walked to him with a smile on his lips.
“You’re so silly,” he rolled his eyes. “If you’re worrying about anyone finding us out, relax, I’m careful-”
“It’s not that, Dongho,” he said seriously, holding the boy’s shoulders to keep him away when he moved closer. “I really don’t want to keep this on. I’m not making excuses up, I just don’t want to do it.”
Dongho’s smile didn’t fade.
“You don’t want it?” he repeated incredulously, running a finger down Soohyun’s ribcage and onto his stomach getting closer to more private parts. “You don’t want this?” he inched closer and his nose touched Soohyun’s.
It was agonizing and a knot formed on his throat. Dongho felt so good against him and his smell was so addicting, the sweet aroma that emanated from his hair, it was all Soohyun wanted to keep dear as long as he could. But he couldn’t, he wasn’t allowed to and it hurt him. So he closed his eyes and decided there would only be a way to make Dongho see.
“Do you really think I would want it?” he asked as coldly as he could.
Dongho stopped and moved back to look at him. “What?”
Soohyun gave a derisive smirk and pushed the other back, careful not to be harsh.
“You’re just a kid, Dongho,” he laughed through his nose and it sounded so uncharacteristic of him. “Did you actually think you interested me at all?”
Dongho’s smile faded but he shook his head, not allowing himself to believe the other’s words. “You don’t mean it.”
“Oh?” he said and looked superiorly at him. “Are you so dumb you thought this was in fact going somewhere? You’re somewhat attractive and I like to play a little, that’s all. I enjoy the attention, you see,” he gave a disgusting half smile and his heart broke when Dongho’s eyes got suddenly so lifeless. “It was very fun for the time being, but you’re getting a little too clingy. It’s a bit cute you believed you had any power on me, to be honest.”
Backing away slowly, Dongho eyed him holding the last hopes he had, visually scared by Soohyun’s sudden change of behavior.
“You’re not serious, stop it,” he smiled sadly and hit Soohyun’s shoulder half-heartedly. Soohyun got hold of the hand and pulled him closer forcefully, making him yelp when their bodies crushed.
“Well, I could fuck you just good enough and have you gone at once, how does that sound to you?” he whispered at his ear and pushed him against a wall, parting his legs with his own. Dongho shut his eyes closed and shook his head, and Soohyun thought he should stop when a tear ran down the boy’s face. “Do we have a deal?” he asked with a poisonous voice and that was the final blow. Dongho pushed him violently, making him almost fall and hit his head on the bed.
He looked drily at Soohyun with reddening eyes, cleaning the spot on his neck where the other’s mouth had been with the back of his hand, obviously disgusted.
“I hate you,” he mumbled in a low, sharp voice that he hadn’t ever used around Soohyun. He closed the door loudly behind him and everything went dead silent after it.
Soohyun felt something tug at his chest, going up his throat, causing a despairing feeling. He didn’t hold the tears back because it was just too much. He hadn’t had an idea of how much he liked Dongho and his bold moves and adorable smile until then. He hadn’t known he was actually in love with him, but he didn’t regret anything. Because it was for the best.
He looked at the door and frowned.
There was no way it could ever work out.
