Very nice, I'm loving this big time.

The naked mole rat acid experiment makes me wonder how this guy hasn't been arrested for animal cruelty.

I've been fascinated and disturbed by Dr. Sergei Brukhonenko for quite some time, so I'm glad to see he made the list.

However, I was surprised not to see Josef Mengele. Sure, he's not the most politically correct choice out there, that's for sure, but to me he pretty much defines Mad Scientist.

I made the conscious decision to leave Mengele off the list. Many mad scientists perform cruel acts that are attempting to prove something new about life or the world. I am of the opinion that Mengele on the other hand was not actually testing any technique or scientific principle, merely exercising his power and indulging in torture.

I can see the good decision behind that.

I agree in that I think he was, for the very large part, only doing what he did for his own amusement, but personally I believe he qualifies as a scientist because, even if it was a very slim percentage of his purpose for his experiments, I believe he really did hope to find important discoveries in his experiments.

Some of these I've heard of already, but some of them sound made-up. Are there actual citations for some of them? o_O

I was in the same boat. Google reveals some pretty surprising and disturbing stuff!

Feel free to look any of them up. All these scientists and experiments are public. Imagine how many heads the dogs they DON'T tell us about have!

I've seen the Soviet dog resurrection film - though I had it for a year before I could bring myself to watch it. I will not watch it again, but it was indeed fascinating. Horrifically fascinating.

After inventing DC electricity, his rival Westinghouse invented AC electricity.

You may want to add that it's your number 1 dude Tesla who actually did the inventing and Westinghouse that did the investing.

I know. I should make the change. Each one of these guys could get a book and certain simplifications are needed to fit them into a list. If only Edison had called electrocution Teslacution the world would be that much more awesome.
