Late to The Party

Oct 19, 2015 14:54

Never expected to join LiveJournal yet here I am navigating its muddy waters. Is it me or is this platform less user-friendly than most? It feels like its actively stopping me from joining the party by promptly declaring me spam (what a welcome) and playing hide and seek with its buttons and functions. I shall tame you, friend, I shall tame you.

It's relatively easy for spambots to wreak havoc on communities in particular. I've been here a long while and it feels way more intuitive to me than Tumblr, for example. Especially for conversations.

You want access to seasonal_spuffy?

I think I'll get the hang of it eventually. I hope.
I asked to be part of the community today, to make things simpler when my posting days comes up - I might have been granted access already..? If not, yes please! Much appreciated.

Welcome to LJ and congratulations again on the winning banner!

I love when artists talk about their processes and show sketches, etc so I LOVELOVELOVE that you've done so with your banner for seasonal_spuffy!

Tame LJ you shall, btw - I find it far easier to use than twitter or tumblr, the latter of which strikes me as extremely counter intuitive. It's fine for showing stuff off, but much harder for conversations, and I love both visual art and meta. It also encourages "reflagging" the point that you cannot find the original source.

I'm a bit of a newbie myself - only got into Buffy fandom and LJ 3 years ago, and really didn't actively do fan art on serious basis until a year and a half ago. I hope you have fun, there are new communities to explore every day, and individual journals can be a great locus for conversation etc.

Do you do icons? Icon challenges are extremely popular. Alas. there are few places for banner making on a regular basis other than SS, and making fic posters on ones own or on "commission".

I haven't tried yet! This is honestly my first experience that is either Buffy-related or oriented towards web communities, so we will see where it goes from here. Lots of fun to be had, I'm sure. Right now I'm still trying to figure out how to join this, or link that. Editing every post ten times as it never comes out right.

I'm really happy about you saying that you enjoy seeing the progress. I do too when I follow my favourite artists! So I think I will be trying to show a little bit of mine as I go as well. Ill be honest, it's a little scary... :P

Do you make a lot of icons / banners? Are they all on your LJ?

Oh then I'll be more than happy to point you in whatever directions you please! (Should I read your profile first and try to get to know you from that? I'm shockingly bad at reading profiles. I see you're Canadian. What province? I grew up in Detroit but live in New England now.

Well all the ones I've posted are! I've got lots I still need to post, like some fiction covers I've done for other people. My fandom awards are all posted on my profile and I try to keep that up to date with links etc.

A lot of banners for my awards are also by me because I love making banners so I'm becoming a go-to gal in that regard, I guess. I enter btvsats20in20, slayerstillness and whedon_elite challenges regularly. This is only my second time entering a slayerstillness banner challenge. I've done cover art for btvs fan fiction by velvetwhip, aadler, clockwork_hart1, spuffy_luvr and aliceinkinkland, and I've posted all of that on my journal, with a little bit of my photography ( ... )

*Grrr, livejournal* but hoorray for you coming here. I love LiveJournal and I hope more, like you, will come here or return as it really is a great platform. Much easier (once you've figured it out) to seek and find art, fics, and discussions + groups.

I am completely amazed by your talent and I look forward to seeing and enjoying your art.

Thank you for the support! (also, sorry for the later than late reply)
I am still kind of figuring things out. I wanted to post art here, but I am worried of stepping on people's virtual toes by messing up their LJ feed with my big and busy images. I'm not sure what the rules are here and am still straddling that tumblr/LJ fence, waving my arms frenetically.
