Writing memes

My legs are very sore today. Yesterday I walked my legs off tramping around the Science Museum (which I was less than impressed with. All I learnt was what the weight of an average brain felt like) and Hamleys. My camera is broken, so alas, there will be no picspam ( Read more... )

I'm crap at starting anything with a biro. In the olden days (when fanfic was new and I had veritable fonts of dross pouring from my brain) I used to write everything by hand, but that was mostly necessity: I wrote sitting in bed, a bit like a diary, and typing anything was achingly slow. These days I'm not that good with Word either. To be honest, the way I get started on anything is writing it in my head - with a glimmer of a phrase or dialogue or something. They then either coalesce into something, or remain phrases. I've had Spike ringing Buffy and opening their conversation with "D'you still believe in me?" for ages now, but nothing's ever grown out of it except a rubbishy drabble.

I also have serious issues with titles. I envy you. ;)

Black Widow 2 sounds great! Red goes much better with cream than pink does anyway...

You see, I get them snippets too, but I write every single one down (due to my terrible memory) and I try to fit them in later (often with a shoehorn!). I always think, 'I'd like to write somewhere more comfortable and away from the internet crack' but I soon get fed up. I tend to write best away from distractions, and computers are full of them. I'm not bad at Word and typing looking at the keyboard, but I'm never writing fast enough for that to be of use!

I think being descriptive helps with titles, they jump out at you.

Shows what I know about nails, what colour should have have been?

I get distracted wherever I am... and LJ's slightly more interesting than my ragged nails so I prefer the computer. I either tend to get into it for a long stretch of time or not at all, so it doesn't really matter where I go.

I think it doesn't help that I save files under more descriptive names so I can find them again. I've got 'future cotswolds' and 'last slayer' and 'postchos', for example, and in my head that's just what they are.

Haven't a clue! I just don't like pink, and am a fan of contast. :D Pink's probably right.

There's only one place I can really focus and, of course, that's the one place I'm paid to be doing something else...

I have a mixture of vague descriptions and some with titles.

In my world nail varnish is black, silver or slime green.
