Make sure that your audio system is compatible before you go buy this thing. It's intended to control it through the standard controls (dash & wheel) so it may need something above and beyond your current stereo (like 2005 BMW or MINI audio systems.)

But yes, I read that on corporate news feed. Very cool.

Now all I need is Satellite Radio + iPod. Um. Free.

I did check that out, and my car's on the approved list. Basically this thing is a hack on the CD changer interface on the back of the headunit. As far as the car is concerned you have a CD changer attached for the controls. You just can't have a Navigation system or the like since I'd presume that those used the same port.

Sweet.

Does it take input from the ipod and display it on screen?

Anyhow, sounds like a really nice upgrade. Mr. Jobs said a lot of other automakers are doing similar things. I think the Focus could benefit a lot from this kind of interface.

I may take my car to a Mickey Shorr or a Best Buy and get a cable like yours stuck on the back of my head unit. Though I am satisfied with iTrip at the moment.

Yeah, that(the lack of display of the track information) is the biggest downside that I've seen to this adapter thingy. But still it's still way more convenient to switch tracks with my steering wheel controls rather than reaching for my iPod. I managed to install the auxullary input on mine and the plugs for the respective cables are right next to each other, so this shouldn't be too hard of an install.

What is it about the Focus that would make it benefit from such an interface? Or is it just the fact that you could get lots more sales by promoting such a feature to iPod owners?

the question is.. will it work with the 1st gen and 2nd gen iPods? or just the new 3rd generation versions that are out now? and will it work with the mini iPods too?

Doesn't work with earlier gen iPods, since it uses the dock connector. It works on all 3rd gen ipods as well as the iPod mini... It's so bad being terribly tempted to get an iPod mini to go with my MINI...
