Jimmy couldn’t believe his eyes. The flashing lights, the constant ding-ding-ding of the machines, the stench of cigarette smoke. It overwhelmed Jimmy’s senses.
“Sit down,” instructed Chazz.
Jimmy sat and began wiping down the slot machine.
“What do I do?”
“Drop in a quarter. Pull the handle. If one of these things hits this line, you win.”
“Win what? A stuffed animal?”
“No. Try it. It’s fun.”
Jimmy dropped in a quarter and pulled the handle. A picture of cherries landed on the line, but nothing else. Lights flashed.
“I won.”
“You won a quarter.”
“Neat! I can play again!”
