It's Electric...

Well, I just spent my New Orleans money and bought KJ his first electric guitar.  Crazy?  Maybe, but more like hopeful

KJ (my 13 year old son) has never really found "his thing".  He like dinosaurs, at one point he wanted to be an astronaut, and he claimes he wants to eventually be a knight, but none of these things have ever really been a passion ( Read more... )

I can identify with that. Autumn, my daughter in the avatar, plays Bb Trumpet, Eb Trumpet (the one in the picture - period correct with NO valves), 3 or 4 keys of recorder/penny whistle/flute, traditional flute, any ocarina she picks up, piano, guitar, violin and sings in chamber choir - which requires an audition each year to be in. She's also first chair, first trumpet in band.

He sounds like Autumn in his love for music. She wants to perform, and teach until she can make it professionally, so she's going to major in music education and performance in college.

I just spent $900 to buy her a nicer trumpet for Christmas. It wasn't new, but it is a well kept classic that sounds beautiful.

Ya know what, Chris Botti plays on a vintage trumpet and he's set the jazz world on fire. :D

My daughter was telling me this morning that she just downloaded 15th century brass music to her iPod from the "iTunes University - Yale" section. If Autumn hasn't discovered that resource yet you should have her check it out!

That is so kick ass that you did that for him. You are awesome. Even if he doesn't become a professional musician, it will do wonders for him. I played various instruments all the way from 6th grade through senior year of college and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Go you. Go KJ!
