Split Attention

Happy Monday!

Well the 50k in 30 days didn’t go so well. I got 11 K done in a little over a week and then suddenly my brain wanted to write something else. This is part of why I don’t complete things that are more than 20K without a lot of starts and stops.

So now I have a paranormal hockey story based of the song Tam Lin that is sitting at around ( Read more... )

monday motivation, writing, more ideas than time

Yeah - it is pritty much a departure for me and it is kind of a YA. My Daughter had asked for a YA from me last year and I just haven't come up with anything until now.

The idea for the first one has been banging around in my head for a few years. I even have a few short stories with her in it - so it's not like I can lose her. those chericters seem to be tied to me.

oh totaly. It's weird sometimes I know where things come from and sometimes not. this time, both are for people in my life (or people who were in my life)

good luck. this sort of thing happens to me all the time. It's trying to right now but I'm making myself finish the nano novel because I've sold several in this series and I want to be able to sell this

I guess this is why I mostly write short - when I have to focus in on something to the exclusion of all others I start to get really stressed out. I have enough stress in my life without my hobby driving me to the edge.

Can you manage to balence the writing of two novels at the same time?

And I kind of have the same issue with the first one - it is in the universe that most of my published stories are in - so I could place it easy. The second one is in an all new world to me.

Unrelated: Mom and I are registering for PennWriters today - this year is in Pittsburgh. I remember last year I said I would remind you.

oh yes I can definitely manage two novels at the same time. It's only doing one thing that I can't handle.

The second one, since I forgot to mention it, sounded very interesting. And of course there is the allure of knowing you could most likely place the first.

Oh right, you did. When is that?

I am kinda like that with the not being able to do one thing at a time, but I lose the desire to see the end of a novel lenth peice easly.

I think the second may be the winner, at least for now, I like the idea of doing something a bit different.

It looks like it is May 16-19 this year.

yeah I think that is the one I may need to spend time with for now. Plus it is fun to work on something totaly new for a change.

I think I remember you talking about the hockey story a while ago, in the same boat with my novel. It's there, I know what needs to be written, I just can't get myself to sit down and write it.

I'm very interested in your second piece, if I read that on a back cover I'd definitely check it out. If you need someone to bounce ideas off of for that I'd be willing to help :)

I'm back in school again and taking three creative writing classes, so this should be interesting. My advanced fiction professor is giving us prompts instead of letting us turn in what we want, which is a tiny bit problematic because I wanted so very much to submit my novel for each round, but oh well.

How have you been? It's been ages since we've talked, hence the long comment haha.

Yeah that first idea has been with me a while. I so hate the "I know what I have to do, but I just don't have the spark to write it" feeling.

It looks like idea 2 takes the prize and that means a bit more planing.

I do miss being in school - I miss learning being my job. Is there some way to make your novel work with the prompts?

I'm good, things have been crazy. My first novel (e-book) came out at the end of the year and hasn't sold well, probably because I never spend time on the internet pushing it. I need to get more active online again. I miss people. :-)

That's the worst feeling in the world. I feel like if I were to just tell myself "okay write" that might do the trick, but I can't even get there XD

Learning as a job is a great thing, I'm not going to like it when I graduate haha. I might be able to use some of the prompts, but seeing as how the first one involves a child and my novel is about college students, I'm not sure how much I could fit.

You should get back online more! Advertising could help a lot. In fact, I'm thinking about writing reviews for books and movies on my website and I could totally do yours if you want. I'm not sure how many people actually read my posts, but it's worth a shot.

I know I hate not haveing the motivation to write a story - then it becomes a lot of "really? do I have to?"

Yeah, best not shoe horn a child into the novel

It is a time thing - I can either be online or write since now I have next to no free time. I would love reviews - I have 4 short stories and a novel. Send me your e-mail and I will send them to you!
