"The Line"

Oct 30, 2007 09:50

I did a general/thematic post here, which is mostly about lines and crossing them, and takes some time out to rant about the gender issues in last night's ep.

But now I want to talk about race. )

IAWTC. Deliberate badness is much easier to cope with than "OMG, did the show really mean to do that?!?" But still. The thing with our Bob -- there's just no excuse for it.

Yes, that's exactly my problem with it! And it's not helped by the fact that our Bob never has any friggin' lines.

- Who is Mohinder's partner, Nikki or Jessica?

- I kind of like that way that the Hiro story line is going only because I think there's still room for Hiro to rise up and become Kensei or even better his own Hero. Of course, I live part time in a fantasy world where POC characters are able to have really good and interesting story lines.

- Wes is a fucking sociopath. Run Claire, run!

- Glad to see that Mohinder stood up and didn't stick her with the needle. The direction that they were headed in reminded me so much of the shit Black people actually went through(and still go through) with the medical establishment. I doubt the parallel is intentional which made it even more uncomfortable for me to watch.

- I repeat, Wes is a fucking sociopath.

An excellent question. My impression when she checked herself in with the Company was that what she really wanted was integration -- that it was the lack of control that was the problem, not the superstrength. I wonder if we're supposed to think that she's integrated now, that Jessica is part of her rather than a separate personality who'll pop out at any moment. I like the theory that she's actually a mole, like Mohinder, rather than Stepford!Niki.

::sigh:: That sounds like a great place to live. You may be right about Hiro, though; he's such a popular character, I have to think he'll get to taste greatness himself rather than just enabling some white dude.

West is *totally* a sociopath. Jesus god.

I love your theory and would like to marry it.

Yes, that's exactly the problem. The whole "stalking is romantic!" concept is sadly common in the media, so there's this sense of unease beyond West's general ickiness: the unease of distrusting the writers.

My partner refers to West as a proto-Sylar. Given his line last night about Claire being "better" than other people, it does look that way.

I'm glad about Caitlin, too. I just hope it sticks, and she doesn't get relegated to "Peter's girlfriend" status.

My partner calls West a "proto-Sylar", and I think that's never been more clear than last night.

I noticed something about the future New York sequence -- there was a poster in the background showing the same image as the comic Micah gave to Monica, perhaps hinting at Monica's future superhero status?
