For Real?

I'm thinking Real Hard about buying RealDVD with my next paycheck. Anyone know anything interesting about it? Have you tried it yet? Apparently Hollywood is suing to get it off the market, so I'll probably need to pick it up soon!

Imho REAL is garbageware and not worth anyones time. I've spent years fighting with that piece of garbage. If you need DVD player software for your system I can send you a disk of player software, that ships with any dvd drive sold.

No, I already have NERO and Windows Media Player will play DVDs too. RealDVD lets you rip DVDs to video files that you can play on your system and transfer around; it's also a library program for your movies. There's been a lot of press about it lately.

Ok. Shoot me a link and I'll download it tonight for us. Or if you get it first, shoot me a copy.

I just googled for RealDVD. But it's not freeware; it's $29.95. I'm still trying to figure out if Nero can duplicate it, but from everything that was written in the media, it sounds as if it can't.

Hollywood's definitely going crazy about it - as I said, they're apparently suing to get it off the market. I wonder, if I buy it and Hollywood's suit is successful, will they track me down?

Supposedly it includes encryption to stop the video files created with it from being distributed on a P2P network. But the files are supposed to be portable, so you can transfer them to other systems.
