One is reminded of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin in which a man fakes his own suicide and starts his life over again. Alas, he really can't escape.
Weirdly enough, there was a sequal series. And of course an incredibly lame American version called Reggie.
Which tangents way away from your post, but then again, we gotta keep on keeping on.
