It's just slow since hoards of people are moving over now and LJ has a limit on how many imports DW can run at once.
Both are solid blogging sites. Wordpress in particular claims to run over 1/3 of all sites on the web, including bit sites like time.com. My website is running wordpress as my content management tool too. (Also had a few old blogs on blogger/blogspot.) Both are widely used sites that you can find a lot of 3rd party apps for, if you don't like their official mobile apps... So I'm sure you'll find an app you like. What's lacking IMO though is the sense of community that you get with sites like LJ (and maybe DW in the future).
I'm blogging at wordpress, which works for me. I haven't been on twitter or tumblr as much these days, but for brief posts I use Instagram. I'm moving my LJ to DW (as you know) but I doubt I'll be there that often, either.

But honestly it's really easy to set up the import, you don't really need a guide to do it...
How about the good old blogspot or wordpress? Those have fairly robust mobile apps.
