"But you promised," Jack said, his little nose scrunched up.
"I know, but some shi...uh stuff came up," Bobby said, zipping his bag closed.
"Fine," Jack mumbled, crossing his thin arms. "Go then."
"Don't start poutin', I said I was sorry!" Bobby groaned. Jack sat on his bed, eyes on Bobby.
"Damn it, Jack," Bobby sighed. "Alright, get your stuff, we'll go."
Jack smiled, his eyes lighting up. "Yeah?" Bobby nodded. "Get your butt in the car."
Jack hopped up excitedly, hugging Bobby before he ran down the stairs, two at a time.
"You did promise him lunch before you left," Evelyn said at his side.
Bobby rubbed his neck sheepishly. "I know Ma; I just couldn't stand that look on his face."
"Try to be back soon, Jack has an appointment with the dentist at three," she said, smiling.
Bobby looked out the window to the car, seeing Jack fiddling with the radio knobs.
"I'll make sure I'm back in a few months," he murmured. Evelyn nodded. "Good, it'd be nice if you stuck around for more than a few seconds," she said. "He'll miss you, you know."
Bobby hugged Evelyn. "I swear, only a few months," he whispered.
