Bobby sat on the flat rooftop by the window, staring at seemingly nothing. Jack lit a cigarette and inhaled slowly, the burning tip glowing red in the moonlight.
Bobby stared at his hands, willing himself to say something, anything to break the silence. Jack moved closer to him, laying his head on Bobby's shoulder.
Jack opened his mouth to speak, then sighed and held back the words.
The silence hung between them, bleak and heavy.
Each longed to speak, both held back by fear, longing, and desire.
Bobby closed his eyes, bitter about his cowardice, his confused fear and love.
