I agree with adopting a gracious and grateful way of speaking and being in the world....and I wonder, how can we hope to counter the outright lies and distortions that continue to rain down on us without at least a little acrimony? Even if we remain polite, the acrimony comes.

I hear you and struggle with the same problem which seems to be getting even worse. I heard someone say on public radio yesterday that one of the Carolinas has passed a law forging the use of long range projection of climate change in government repors. They don't want to discourage development along the Atlantic shore. And while there are still climate change deniers, there are also people who know very well that climate change is happening, they do not want knowledge of it to interfere with their profits from development. Encountering such persons it would seem almost impossible to get angry. Well, i get angry then, but i try not to lose my cool. Hate produces only hate.

The problem is that even if you don't lose your cool the communication effort usually proves pointless. Why expose yourself to the vitriol when they have no intention of being civil or of facing their own immorality?
