Humans. I'm telling you. We're such an idolatrous bunch that we make idols of our conceptual categories.

How would you tell a spiritual experience from other sorts, and are there other sorts?

How could i tell? Maybe i couldn't. I could live with that.
But i have a feeling that i would be able to tell. Three times i missed all the cues; i'll be more alert next time. I can see it in the writing of others (Julian of Norwich had such an experience; Leon Bloy didn't) By its fruits i will know it.
